Bring a useful transmission history
Send the registration, engine, gearbox and any existing ECU or TCU tune. Provide servicing and repair information where available. The workshop checks the relevant control unit and software support before discussing a calibration appointment.
For a van or daily work vehicle, describe its usual route and load. If there are hardware modifications, list those with the engine brief so the proposed transmission work can be considered in context.
Record symptoms accurately
Note warning messages, shudder, slip or unexpected changes and when they occur. Explain whether the vehicle is cold or warm, which mode is selected and whether a recent repair or software change preceded the behaviour.
A clear history helps distinguish the enquiry about software from a problem that needs diagnosis. Changing a calibration cannot make a worn clutch or other mechanical fault disappear.
Coordinate the requested work
Where a supported gearbox is suitable for tuning, the proposed work may address shift scheduling, response and coordination with the engine. The exact changes depend on condition, software support and the vehicle's use.
Read about engine tuning for a standard setup or custom car and van calibration. Include both the engine and transmission requirements in one enquiry if both are being considered.
Prepare for the Llandow visit
Newport Remaps workshop appointments are at Llandow, CF71 7PB. Send the transmission details and history before travelling, so compatibility, any diagnostic work and the quote can be discussed around a suitable appointment.
